A few months ago I shared a blog all about wedding invitation timing. How to get your wedding invites out and in the mail. If you missed it, check it out here. Today, I am going to share with you a few little DIY wedding invitation details that will make you swoon. And the crazy thing is, they don’t break the bank. You don’t have to do every single one. In fact, I’m telling you do NOT do every single one. But find one small detail and incorporate it into your wedding invites. I promise you they can take even the simplest invitation and make it feel like the most luxurious invite to the most awesome wedding of the year.
When you start going through this list of wedding invitation details, remember you do not want to do all of them. Maybe just one or two, anymore than that would be overkill. So, pick details that are within your capability of you plan on DIY’ing them. If you’re not sure, read this BWE blog post that will tell you the secret to DIY’ing successfully for your wedding! But also be sure to pick details that are within your budget.
This is one detail that is perfect for those of you who want a small DIY project that isn’t going to take all your time, or take over your kitchen table! Wax seals have come a long way since the time of George Washington. You don’t need candles and flames. All you need is a glue gun! Seriously, the wax now comes in a low temperature wax tube that fits right into a standard glue gun. One even squeeze of the glue gun, give it a few seconds, press it with the stamp. And voila! A wax seal that looks like dream invite perfection. And these wax seals come in all kinds of colors, including metallic. You can get the sealing stamp on Amazon or, go crazy, and get a custom one made on Etsy, check out this one from GetMarked. Niether option is going to break the bank. The wax will cost you around $15-20 for 100 invitations. While a custom seal will cost you around $28 and you can use it forever!
A few years ago envelope liners were something you would only find in high-end very expensive wedding stationary options. But that is no longer the case. You have the option of adding envelope liners to many invitations, and at all different price points. One of my favorite wedding invitation shops is Beacon Lane. They did my wedding invitations and I looooove them. They offer invitation liners inserted and assembled for a small price upgrade of $1 per envelope. And you can even get them custom designed.
For those of you who don’t mind a little DIY, Minted offers envelope liners. And get this. You don’t have to line every single envelope you send out. But we all know there are certain guests who will totally go gaga over a fancy invite. Your mom, your grandmother, your childhood BFF. But there are other guests who probably won’t. My uncle Mike, god bless his soul, wouldn’t even notice an envelope liner (it doesn’t help that he’s color blind). So you might consider ordering and inserting yourself, envelope liners into a select number of your invites. Minted offers liners that peel and stick into their envelopes. You get 25 envelope liners for $19. And, if you have a wedding planner like myself, you can take advantage of my Minted Ambassador status and get everything on Minted.com for 20% off!
Check out the envelope liner template sold by the here by the Paper Source. Their site includes videos to show you exactly what’s involved. You won’t need much in terms of supplies or skill. Here’s a quick shopping list:
If all that DIY’ing these wedding invitation details makes you a little nervous, you can also choose The Paper Sources’ pre-cut envelope liners. Just be careful to make sure that you are choosing the right liner for the right size envelope.
