December 9, 2018
One of my favorite end of the year traditions has nothing to do with the holidays. It’s more of a New Year’s tradition. Like the Time Magazine “Person of the Year” and all the year in review specials that come on TV during the month of December. One of the things that pops up in my “wedding end of the year celebration” is Pantone’s annual announcement of their Color of the Year. The announcement will set the industry trend for Wedding Colors and Themes for 2019. Pantone is a company that has a color matching system. Seriously, the design nerd is about to come out, big time. Pantone colors, or PMS colors (it stands for Pantone Matching System) are a way for designers to ensure that when they specify a color, the printers, web designers, etc, all know exactly what the color should look like.
This year, Pantone has chosen Living Coral! Described as a color that communicates a vibe that embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment. Representing the fusion of modern life, PANTONE living coral is a nurturing color that appears in our natural surroundings and at the same time, displays a lively presence within social media. Perfect for the LBI beachy vibe that. But a slight departure for those that are ready to move away (if only so slightly) from the traditional nautical colors. Adding pops and accents of Living Coral, might be just what you needed! I am really excited about this color choice. I think it’s perfect for my LBI bride looking to incorporate some bright fun beach vibe, without going overboard. It’s also a slight departure from the traditional beach inspiration and nautical vibe.
In 2015 the color of the year was Marsala. I think that’s a color trend that has stuck, especially for fall weddings. In 2016, Pantone went a little crazy and chose two (!) colors, serenity and quartz. In 2017 it was greenery (and I think we all know how well that caught on!). Unique among Pantone’s choices, Greenery actually had the most influence on wedding floral trends. Think about how tons of greenery and garlands has caught on over the past few years! In 2018 it was Ultra Violet. Not my favorite choice but still, it is pretty, you can read about it here.
In fact, I might claim to have been a little ahead of the wedding colors and themes for 2019. Check out Hannah & Matt’s wedding. It’s the perfect blend of traditional nautical with Living Coral as the pop of color needed to bring the color palette alive. Here are a few photos from Idalia Photography. If you are curious about the ways to use Living Coral in the design for your own event, here a few helpful combinations that I thought you might enjoy. For even more, check out Pantone’s Color of the Year guide on how to use Living Coral.
