Last week I had this incredible opportunity to work with one of my favorite people, Alexandra Peterson, to help plan and style her first workshop, Blogging For Creative Entrepreneurs Workshop. Alex is one half of the husband/wife duo behind Idalia Photography. And if you ask me, I’ll be the first to tell you that Alex is a genius. When I began my journey into Entrepreneurship, Alex was my second biggest cheer leader (right behind my husband Richie). She was the reason I began blogging.
Alex called me three and a half weeks before the Blogging For Creative Entrepreneurs Workshop to ask if I was available on April 2nd. I knew I was, and asked why, knowing the answer was going to entail a lot of hard work but with amazing results. Alex had told me before about her plans to branch out into workshops and in-person educational opportunities. She had been using her blog to educate for years, but had been toying around with the idea of organizing workshops for other creatives for a while. Surprise, surprise: a space perfect for a workshop (The Art Factory in Paterson, NJ) had fallen into her lap, and if we were going to take advantage of it, we would have to organize and pull of planning a major event fast. I was all in. Here are all the fun results, photographed by Heather Palecek (who by the way is as talented as she is fun and sweet).
The first thing Alex and I discussed was florals and styling. She gave me a little information on the look she was going for. We visited the space together. And then, she let me run with it. I chose a mix of classic and modern elements that matched Alex’s brand.
I worked with my husband, Richie, to design a menu that would accommodate different tastes and work well given the causal nature of the event. I had so much fun creating little food labels. My favorite was the Orange Juice sign: “When life gives you lemons, make orange juice. Then watch the rest of the world try to figure out how the hell you did it.”
Alex presented tons of valuable content that is going to make my blog soooooo much better and more effective. Cinnamon Wolfe was there too, to explain Square Space. And we all did lots of work. I think that was my favorite part. The workshop wasn’t just me listening. It was a whole more of me doing! And that’s how I learn best. It’s like reading the instructions for Monopoly. It doesn’t really make sense until you play!
Together, Alex and I have celebrated many of my blog milestones. The first time a client booked me who did so “because they read my blog.” The first time I mentioned to a stranger (the nurse in my doctor’s office) that I was writing my blog while I was waiting, and she asked what blog I wrote, and turns out she’s a reader! The first time my SEO was so effective I got one of those scam emails twice in one week! Alex has always been there, helping to tweak my blog, brainstorm topics, and provide a little creative criticism. She’s always one of the first to hit “like” and leave a comment on my posts. She’s a great friend. And she’s such an amazing professional to have in your corner. I’m very lucky.
This week, at the Blogging For Creative Entrepreneurs Workshop, I had the opportunity to work with the best to provide other creatives with an enriched educational opportunity that will help us all to become better at blogging. Better at attracting our ideal clients. Better at SEO. Amazingly awesome at targeting our audience with the type of content that will help them decide if they want to work with us. And what a great time this group had learning!
Are you interested in attending the next Blogging For Creative Entrepreneurs Workshop? Then you have got to get yourself on Alex’s waiting list here. Because we are already working on the next one!
