It’s no secret that summer is the peak of wedding season for many parts of the country. It seems like summer weddings are the must-have time to get married, so it’s likely you’re aiming for June, July or August if you’re planning a wedding. But before deciding on summer weddings on LBI for your big day, be sure to weigh the pros and cons so that you have the best planning experience! In fact, you may decide that summer isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Or, you might decide it is!
You can make the most of being outdoors | With summer weather you’ll be able to pack more outside activities into your wedding day. On a sunny summer day, you can take your photos outside, or set up lawn games during cocktail hour. You also have warm weather to influence your venue choice, whether it’s a beach wedding or a garden ceremony.
The weather’s warm | With a summer wedding, there’s no need to wrap up! There’s no need to worry about a coat or wearing a dress that will keep you bundled up in the cold. Your guests can wear strapless dresses and stay outside all night long!
Most businesses are open | If you are getting married in a seasonal town (like LBI), everything will be open during the
summer, which provides your guests with additional entertainment options for any “down time” they may have between events!
More of your guests will be able to attend | Chances are, your guests won’t have as many conflicts during the summer and more of your family and friends will be able to attend. If you’re looking forward to having all of the people who mean the most to you at your wedding, picking a summer wedding will up your headcount of people who are able to come.
You’ll have more options when it comes to flowers | June to August are the peak months for a lot of popular wedding flowers, so more of the flowers you’re likely to be in season and therefore cost you less. Flowers in season for the summer include sunflowers, poppies, and green roses. While you might be able to find the flowers you want any time of year, the expense to ship them from a tropical location can skyrocket.
Summer doesn’t mean there won’t be any rain | You might think you’re safe when it comes to weather if you plan a wedding during the warm summer months. Unfortunately, summer doesn’t avoid this potential pitfall. There’s a big chance you might have a downpour in the middle of your ceremony. If you’ve planned to have your wedding outdoors a sudden burst of rain can ruin your dream wedding in seconds, so you’re still going to need an indoor option as a backup.
When it’s hot it’s very hot | Warm and sunny weather is a plus, but the sun will also bring the risk of sunburn and sweat stains. If you have an outdoor wedding, you and your guests might need to lather up the sunscreen if you plan to spend a large chunk of your wedding day outside. Be courteous of your guests who might not think about the sun and have a table with travel-sized sunscreen bottles to protect their skin, sunglasses, or maybe even cute hats that double as a wedding favor.
It’s a popular wedding season | Many of your guests will have multiple weddings and the cost of attending multiple receptions means you risk guests having wedding fatigue. The costs of vendors and venues go up during the summer as well, so the cost of your wedding might increase as a result. Be prepared when it comes to paying those expenses and try out a personal loan for your wedding instead of paying for everything with a high-interest credit card.
It can get a little crowded | You’ll want to be aware that LBI is a summer town and will be at peak tourist season, which means your guests may encounter trouble booking hotel rooms (almost all hotels will require a 2- or 3-night minimum stay) and find problems with traffic and parking. When planning summer weddings on LBI, you will want to get helpful information out to your guests as early as possible to help them avoid these potential pitfalls.
Yacht Club Venues | Yacht Clubs are a great venue for many of LBI’s weddings. But during the summer months they take a break from weddings and are open only to their own members. So, if you are looking forward to breathtaking yacht club views (and some of the best sunsets on the Jersey Shore, than a summer yacht club wedding is not going to be for you (you’ll need to book the Spring or Fall months).
With the warmer weather comes the bugs | This can get annoying at a wedding, especially if your ceremony and reception are outside. Light candles to shoo away the mosquitos or provide organic travel-size bug spray for your guests so they don’t get bit! For those planning summer weddings on LBI, taking the no-see-ems, green heads, and mosquitos into account is a must for their guest’s comfort.
